Set in lush sub-tropical gardens, just minutes from the smart restaurant and marina quarters of Ocean Village, Leisure Island and Marina Bay with casinos, bars, restaurants, Gibraltar’s only 5* yacht hotel and the shortly to be completed World Trade Center. Ocean Spa Plaza will create a luxurious haven away from the stress and pressures of everyday life. Ocean Spa Plaza will continue the landmark architecture, high quality finish and build excellence that made properties at nearby Ocean Village some of the fastest selling real estate in Gibraltar’s history. An iconic elliptical building with living green walls to the car park, Ocean Spa Plaza will benefit from features that will a first in Gibraltar.

This multi-story car park will include extensive car parking facilities for members of the public and, on behalf of the Government of Gibraltar, local residents. The building design is unique and will benefit the area, featuring a contemporary glass clad elliptical form that presents a striking, attractive appearance from whichever angle it is observed. In accordance with the preference of both the Town Planning Department and the Client, the ground and first floors will be reserved for commercial and retail elements in order to ensure the frontage remains both flawless and attractive.

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY – PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS

Solar panels are changing the way people power their homes and businesses across the world and it is widely expected within the next 10 years photovoltaics will become, in many regions of the world, the cheapest source of electricity.

The existing application to DPC proposes the installation of a vertical wall of photo- voltaic panels in a prominent position on the building (facing South West) – which will be both a first for Gibraltar and support the Government’s commitment to deriving energy from renewable sources.

VERTICAL LIVING WALLS

A first for Gibraltar, and one of the first in the world for a car park, the structure will feature the introduction of a “Green Wall” or “Living Wall”  – an urban garden that will result in a self sufficient vertical wall growing across around 70% of the circumference of each floor.  It will offer an aesthetically pleasing, oxygen-emitting façade that will not only create striking patterns and a multitude of colours but will also support an ecosystem of insects and birdlife that do not presently thrive on the site.  Such living green walls have been successfully integrated with great success to buildings in for example Singapore. It is that success which has inspired the inclusion of the living green wall here.
